Â
QUICK LOOK - Fresno State is 1-4 this season. The Bulldogs played the first four games of their season on the road, and are fresh off of their home opener versus Cal last Friday.
Â
LAST TIME OUT - The Bulldogs dropped their home opener to Cal, 14-12. Fresno State was led in scoring by senior Hannah Krats who scored four goals on eight shots in the contest. Senior keeper Courtney Walburger had 10 saves in the game.
Â
ROOKIES STANDING OUT - The Bulldogs have won three of the four MPSF Rookie of the Week honors so far this season as freshman attacker Logann Eldredge has picked up two honors and freshman defender Devon Ortman earned the other. Eldredge earned this week's honor after three goals on seven shots, one assist, one draw control and one ground ball.
Â
GROUND BALL MAGNETS - As a team, Fresno State has scooped 111 ground balls this season, and ranks No. 9 in the NCAA in ground balls per game. The 'Dogs are averaging 22.20 ground balls per game this season. As a team, the Bulldogs' biggest ground ball performance was at Robert Morris as they scooped 35 in the game. The 35 ground balls were the second-most in a game in program history.
Â
Three different 'Dogs have double-digit ground balls on the year as Hennessey Evans and Devon Ortman lead the team with 14 apiece, and Abbigayle Roberts has 13. Every Bulldog who has seen play time this season (17) has recorded at least one ground ball.
Â
WINNING THE DRAW - Fresno State has made itself comfortable in the draw, winning 79 this season. The Bulldogs rank No. 13 in the NCAA in draw controls per game (15.80).
Â
Sydney Skalstad leads the team with 31 draw controls on the year as she brings her career total to 113, and officially sit third in program history in career draw controls. Skalstad ranks No. 26 in the NCAA in draw controls per game (6.20). Ortman is second on the team with 15, and Hannah Krats has 10.
Â
SHARING IS CARING - Ten Bulldogs have scored at least one goal this season with Hannah Etheridge scoring her first career goal last time out. Skalstad and Eldredge lead the team with 16 points apiece. Skalstad has fired 14 goals and adds two assists, while Eldredge has scored 11 goals with five assists on the year. Evans is third on the team with 11 goals and three assists for 14 points, and Krats adds 10 goals and a pair of assists.
Â
ALWAYS ATTACKING - Fresno State's offense has taken a shot at every opportunity it can. The Bulldogs have fired 175 shots on the year, 121 on goal. As a team, the Bulldog offense ranks No. 9 in the NCAA in shots per game (34.80) and No. 19 in shots on goal per game (24.20).
Â
Skalstad leads the Bulldog offense with 37 shots and 25 shots on goal. She ranks No. 31 in total shots per game, averaging 7.4 per contest. She is No. 43 in the NCAA in shots on goal per game (5.00). Eldredge has a team-best .500 shooting percentage off of 11 goals on 22 shots.
Â
ENDURANCE FOR DAYS - Fresno State is sporting a minimal roster this season due to a number of reasons. The Bulldog lacrosse team is made up of just 18 student-athletes. Outside of the starting 12, there are not many available for substitutions in a game, but that has not stopped the 'Dogs from competing for a full 60 minutes.
Â
SECOND HALF SPURT - The Bulldogs have never given up in a game. The fight in the 'Dogs during the second half of play is obvious on the stat sheet. This season, Fresno State has scored more goals, taken more shots and registered more shots on goal in the second half than in the first. The Bulldogs have scored 31 second-half goals to their 20 in the first half of games this season.
Â
SCOUTING UC DAVIS - UC Davis is 4-2 this season. The only two losses for the Aggies this season have been to ranked opponents, No. 22 Stanford and No. 18 USC. The Aggies have wins over Fresno State, Oregon, Cal and San Diego State.
Â
The Aggies have a player leading the conference in points, goals, ground balls, draw controls, shots, free-position goals, save percentage and caused turnovers. With 25 goals and 32 points overall, UC Davis senior Sorana Larson leads the NCAA in both categories, while ranking in the top 15 in free position goals per game (1.67) and points per game (5.33).
Â
The teams last met in the 2021 season opener on Valentine's Day in Davis. The Aggies earned a 20-12 win in the opener to extend its advantage in the all-time series to 12-1. The last time the Bulldogs earned a win versus UC Davis was in 2012 in a double overtime victory on the road.
