Tuitele conquers Pro Day

FRESNO, Calif. – Friday morning at Bulldog Stadium was all about Syrus Tuitele. The Bulldogs' starting offensive right tackle from the last three seasons, and 2020 second team All-Mountain West squad member, had his moment to impress 19 NFL scouts in attendance as he makes his push to achieve his NFL dream.
"It was a fun experience," Tuitele said. "It made me feel old. I was looking around and said to myself, I'm really by myself."
But even though there was a lack of Pro Day participants with him, his former teammates filled the weight room and stadium to cheer him on as he progressed through the morning.
"I truly miss these guys," he said. "Watching the videos of them grinding together. I miss that. That's just a different connection you're not going to get outside of here. In the league, it's all business. You'll make friends but it's a business. Here it's family."
Tuitele started in the weight room for measurements, followed by a vertical jump, broad jump, and 225 lb. bench press reps before moving outside.
Tuitele's height came in at 6 feet, 5.5 inches tall and he weighed 311 lbs. His vertical jump was 26.0" and broad jump registered in at 7'-10". His strength was on full display on the bench press (watch), posting 36 reps of 225 lbs. Last year at the NFL Combine, his former teammate Netane Muti recorded 44 reps, and 37 was the second-most at the 2020 Combine for perspective.
On the field, in what was a rainy morning at Bulldog Stadium, he recorded a 40-yard dash time of 5.15-seconds before proceeding to a few more drills and offensive linemen specific drills with scouts.
"I had like two-and-a-half months to get right for just one day … slowly my times went up, and then my times went up here," Tutiele said. "I did great with my Pro Day, there are some things I wish I did better but beggars can't be choosers."
The NFL Draft is April 29-May 1. The first round is Thursday, the second and third rounds are Friday while the final four rounds are on Saturday. The event is scheduled to be in Cleveland, Ohio.
