No. 12 Fresno State posts big road win over No. 13 Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. – The No. 12 Fresno State water polo team defeated No. 13 Pacific in a crucial conference matchup, pushing the Bulldogs into a first-place tie in the Golden Coast Conference standings.
Fresno State (9-5, 5-1 GCC) has officially qualified for the four-team GCC postseason tournament.
"Today was a great game for us," head coach Natalie Benson said. "We were able to compete for four quarters and come away with a big win. The team was ready to play today and executed the game plan well. We are ready to finish the season strong."
Daphne Guevremont led the Bulldogs' offense with four goals. In goal, Kate Watley played the entirety of the contest and notched seven saves.
Additional goal scores included Callie Woodruff (3), Emily Nicholson (2), Yesenia Preciado (2), Cynthia Rosa (1), Sienna Jagielski (1) and Claire Schade (1).
How It Happened – The Bulldogs came out strong, logging back-to-back goals out of the huddle. The Tigers responded with two consecutive goals of their own to tie the game. Fresno State and Pacific trader goals for the remainder of the opening quarter until the Tigers were able to string together two straight goals to take a 5-4 lead into the break.
The game continued to be a battle, Fresno State tied the game 6-6 before four consecutive goals gave the Bulldogs a two-goal lead with 10-6 lead with 6:37 left in the third quarter. Fresno State finished the third quarter on a 3-1 run to take a 13-7 lead into the final eight minutes.
Pacific held strong in the fourth quarter, not giving up a single goal to Fresno State but netting three goals of its own. The Tigers' made a strong comeback attempt but would fail to overcome the deficit suffering their first loss of conference play to the Bulldogs 13-10.
