The Fresno State women’s tennis team rallied, but the Bulldogs’ comeback bid at San Jose State came up just short in a relentlessly competitive conference contest on Saturday in the Bay Area.
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team lost a hard-fought 4-3 road match to the San Jose State Spartans on Saturday afternoon at the Spartan Tennis Complex.
Fresno State (10-4, 3-1 Mountain West) won at both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles position to secure the doubles point and the 'Dogs rallied back from a 3-1 deficit with wins by Dalia Ahmed at No. 1 singles and Ella Husrefovic at No. 6 singles.
The Bulldogs' Cristina Flaquer battled tough in a tightly contested three-and-a-half hour two-set match-clinching loss at No. 2 singles, which included a tiebreak going to SJSU in the opener and needed the Spartans' Rozalina Youseva to hold on late in the second set to preserve San Jose State's undefeated season (10-0, 3-0 MW).
In Fresno State's two matches the past two days in San Jose, Ahmed went a perfect 4-0 at No. 1 singles and doubles.
