SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - History was made on Friday morning as Fresno State senior golfer Brigitte Thibault teed off at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship, marking the first time in program history that a Bulldog has opened play at the national championship event.
Thibault, playing in the championship as an individual, was 3-over-par (75) on Friday. The senior Bulldog opened play at the Grayhawk Golf Club with an even first nine, carding a birdie in the mix to make her the program's all-time leader in career birdies.
The Bulldog sits tied for 52nd place heading into the second round of stroke play on Saturday. Thibault is set for a 12:25 p.m. PT tee time off hole one tomorrow. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com.
Texas is the current field team leader with a 289 (+1), and Stanford's Rachel Heck leads all players with a 69 (-3). With a lot of golf left to be played, Thibault looks ahead to making her move up the leaderboard this weekend.
THE RUNDOWN
Thibault is set for 54-holes of stroke play (Friday-Sunday) at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship. Following Sunday's round, the NCAA will determine the top 15 teams and 9 individuals not on an advancing team. Those selected teams and individuals will play one final round of stroke play on Monday, determining the individual champion and runner-up.
Advancing teams will continue to compete in match play, beginning with a quarterfinal round on Tuesday. The 2021 team National Champion will be crowned on Wednesday.
