'Dogs earn ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. -Â The Diamond 'Dogs have earned the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)Â Team Academic Excellence Award, announced by the organization on Wednesday.
The award, in its sixth year after getting its start in the 2015-16 academic year, honors collegiate baseball teams that post a cumulative grade point average over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year as the 'Dogs posted a 3.43 team GPA in 2020-21.
The Diamond 'Dogs were one of two Mountain West programs to earn the honor along with UNLV.
94 NCAA Div. I programs earned the accolade this year after 77 programs earned the honor in 2019-20.
Along with the team recognition, 30 Bulldogs were named Mountain West academic all-conference on July 14 with 12 'Dogs tabbed Mountain West Scholar-Athletes a day later.
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes.
The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Sports Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
