Basketball releases nonconference slate

FRESNO, Calif. – Following the recent announcement of the Mountain West schedule, the Fresno State women's basketball team has released its regular-season 11-game non-conference slate on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will host four regular-season home contests, in addition to one exhibition, and will play seven games away from Fresno with one of those being at a neutral site. Fresno State will face
The 'Dogs will open the year at home, staying local with their exhibition, as Fresno Pacific will travel across town for the preseason tune-up. It is the third time since 2017 that the schools have agreed to play one another in an exhibition to start the year (2017, 2019).
The beginning of the regular season sees Fresno State on the road traveling to Utah for games at Utah Valley (Nov. 11) and 2021 NCAA Tournament at-large selection BYU (Nov. 13).
Fresno State returns home the following week with CSU Stanislaus on Nov. 17 for the home opener. The 'Dogs will then host CSUN on Nov. 23, its last home contest until the final week of the nonconference season.
During the ensuing three-week stretch, the Bulldogs will face two more West Coast Conference opponents in San Diego (Nov. 26) and Saint Mary's (Dec. 4). As a part of a Thanksgiving tournament at San Diego in which the 'Dogs and Toreros will play on Day 1, Fresno State will also face a 2021 postseason team the following day in either Drexel (NCAA) or Nebraska (WNIT). Following the two-day event, the team will head up to Cal on Dec. 2.
The Bulldogs last nonconference game away from home will be in the Central Valley as they travel down the 99 to CSU Bakersfield. The two sides have faced one another eight times dating back to 2010.
The Bulldogs final two games of the nonconference will come at the Save Mart Center, hosting UC Merced on Dec. 18 before squaring off with 2020 WCC Tournament champions Portland who finished the 2021 season playing in the Women's Basketball Invitational.
2021-22 OUTLOOK
Fresno State this season will blend a group of experienced Bulldog veterans with six talented newcomers (four freshmen, two transfers). Two-time All-MW selections Haley Cavinder and Hanna Cavinder return after another productive campaign in Fresno. Haley is coming off being the first player in MW history to win Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Running mate Wytalla Motta is also back for her extra year of eligibility that was granted through the NCAA's COVID-19 waiver.
