Piferi soars to Gold semis in Cal Fall Invite

Fresno State’s Carolina Piferi is continuing to shine for the Bulldogs.
BERKELEY, Calif. – Fresno State's Carolina Piferi delivered an impressive fall debut by soaring to a semifinal appearance in the Gold Bracket of 2022 Cal Fall Invitational.

Piferi, who is from Prato, Italy, earned straight-set victories over players from Saint Mary's College (Round of 32), San Francisco (Round of 16) and California (Quarterfinals) before falling to eventual Gold Bracket champion Valencia Xu of Stanford.

Mariia Vyshkina competed with Piferi in four doubles contests during the weekend, which included a Sunday win over a duo from Sacramento State.

Vyshkina – a freshman – also played her way through the Gold Bracket consolation singles – sweeping through Saturday's consolation round of 16 and quarterfinals en route to the consolation semifinals.
