'Dogs sign five as signing period opens

FRESNO, Calif. – During the opening two weeks of the of the fall signing period, Fresno State head softball coach Stacy May-Johnson inked four athletes for 2024 along with a junior college transfer for the 2023 season.
Kendal LeGrand
Pitcher
Goodard, Kan./Goodard HS/Butler CC/Temple CC
Coach May-Johnson on LeGrand… "Kendal will join our team this upcoming January and compete on the mound immediately. Last year she competed at Butler Community College where she was a standout on one of the nation's top junior college teams. She joins us this season after spending her fall at Temple Community College. She is tall and strong and brings velocity as well as the ability to keep batters guessing. She will be a vital part of our success this year."
Ruby Anderson
Pitcher
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Lambrick Park Secondary
Coach May-Johnson on Anderson… "Ruby has an excellent mix of speed and movement and will make an immediate impact on our bullpen. This past summer she made the final roster for the Canadian national team at the age of 16. She competes at the highest international levels for Team Canada and holds her own against some of the world's best hitters. Her international experience and competitive attitude will prepare her well to impact our program immediately."
Faith Jordan
Pitcher/First Base
Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak HS
Coach May-Johnson on Jordan… "Faith is yet another excellent pitcher to emerge from the Northwest. She has a great mix of speed and movement and throws change of speed with confidence and for strikes. In addition to her talent on the mound, Faith can also hit for power and play first base. She is a determined and athletic player who should see time in our lineup right away."
Kealani Nitta
Outfield
Elk Grove, Calif./Franklin HS
Coach May-Johnson on Nitta… "Kealani is an explosive outfielder with phenomenal speed and power. She has base stealing speed and the power to hit for extra base hits, as well as tracking ability in the outfield to go with a strong arm. Kealani projects to be a top of the lineup hitter. She has a winning attitude and will not only impact our team positively on the field but also in the clubhouse."
Maddie Rey
Third Base/Utility
Clovis, Calif./Clovis West HS
Coach May-Johnson on Rey… "Maddie comes to us from Clovis West High. She is another in a long line of tremendous talent to come from the Fresno area. She has had a ton of success consistently hitting the top pitching in the TRAC, and we are excited to see that translate to our level. Maddie is a multi-sport athlete who can run, hit for power, and play multiple defensive positions. She was born and raised a Bulldog and brings a fire and passion for our school and to represent our community."

- 2018 Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division II Second Team.
- Helped Goodard to pair of Top 4 finishes at state tournament.
- Holds Goodard's all-time strikeout record.
- Appeared in 43 games, pitching 69.2 innings in one season at Butler CC with a. Owned a 2.71 ERA with 71 strikeouts while giving up just five walks.
