WICHITA, Kan. - Fresno State redshirt junior catcher Zach Morgan has been named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Watch List, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced on Thursday.
Sixty-seven catchers were nominated for the award by their schools which is given annually to the top division one collegiate catcher. The list will be updated to include other candidates until May 4.
Â
Through 13 games, Morgan is hitting a robust .415 from the plate to rank second in the Mountain West and leads the club in hits (22), doubles (7), at-bats (53), total bases (29) and slugging percentage (.547). Behind the plate, Morgan has started all 13 games with a .978 fielding percentage.
Morgan is the lone catcher from the Mountain West named to the initial watch list and it is the second straight season the 'Dogs have had a catcher on the watch list after Zach Presno was a member of the list in 2021.
A native of Stockton, Morgan is in his fourth season as a Bulldog after redshirting the 2019 season, he saw action in 15 games in the COVID-19 shortened season in 2020 and played in 43 of the 'Dogs 45 games last season.
