'Dogs finish weekend in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – The Fresno State softball team wrapped up the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs went 2-2 on the weekend with two wins over CSU Bakersfield and two losses to No. 5 UCLA.
Game 1 vs. CSUB – Fresno State posted its first run-rule win of the season after defeating CSUB 8-0 to open the tournament.
The Bulldogs outhit the Roadrunners 10-4 in the contest. Fresno State had three players tally multiple hits in Alana Cobb-Adams, Bailey Williams and Alesia Denby.
Fresno State took an early lead with one plated run in the opening frame. The 'Dogs found an offense spark in the third inning, scoring eight runs over the next two frames to take a 9-1 lead after four innings of play.
The 'Dogs sent down the Roadrunners in the top of the fifth to finish the game. Cassidy West secured her first win of the season after pitching all five innings and dishing seven strikeouts. Â Â
Game 2 vs. UCLA – The Bulldogs faced the No. 5 Bruins for the second time this season. UCLA defeated Fresno State 8-2.
Senior Vanessa M. Hernandez went 2-for-3 at the plate for the 'Dogs. Denby tallied her third home run of the year. Senior left-handed pitcher Marley Hanlon pitched all seven innings for Fresno State, recording three strikeouts.
UCLA plated seven runs through four innings to take a 7-0 lead. Fresno State chalked a run in the top of the fifth with the solo home run from Denby. The 'Dogs put another run on the board in the next inning after Keahilele Mattson drew a leadoff walk and was sent around the bases by two singles and a sacrifice bunt.
The Bruins scored one final run in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking the win 8-2.
Game 3 vs. CSUB – Fresno State recorded its second run-rule victory of the season and first shutout over an opponent, besting CSU Bakersfield 8-0.
The Bulldogs plated eight runs on only two hits, logged by Mattson and Williams. CSU Bakersfield helped move Fresno State around the bases with four walks, two hit by pitches and three errors. Senior Casey Dixon recorded her second win the season in the circle.
Fresno State scored two runs in the opening inning, holding a 2-0 lead for the next three innings before breaking the game open with a six-run inning in the fifth. Mattson got things started at the plate with a two-run home run. The 'Dogs tallied four more runs to take a 8-0 advantage over the Roadrunners.
Dixon and Fresno State finished strong in the bottom of the fifth to end the game, recording the Bulldogs' second win of the weekend.
Game 4 vs. UCLA – Fresno State fell to No. 5 UCLA 12-0 to finish the weekend.
Fresno State chalked two hits in the contest, coming off the bats of Denby and Hernandez. The Bulldogs used all four pitchers in the game. West earned the start, pitching 3.1 innings and recording two strikeouts.
Fresno State played tough defense through the first two innings, holding UCLA without a run. The Bruins found their offensive groove in the third inning, taking a 4-0 lead over the Bulldogs. UCLA put up eight runs in the next inning, extending its lead 12-0.
UCLA sent down the batters in order in the top of the fifth to end the game.
What's next – Fresno State will open Mountain West Conference play March 18-20 at Boise State.
