'Dogs drop series finale

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team finished the weekend with a close loss to San Diego State, falling to the Aztecs 4-2 at Margie Wright Diamond on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs tallied five hits in the game. Sophomore Bailey Williams had a team-high two hits and an RBI. Casey Dixon and Cassidy West split time in the circle, logging a combined three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
SDSU loaded the bases with a double and two drawn walks, and the Aztecs were able to plate both runs on a sacrifice fly after an error was committed on the throw from left field.
SDSU extended its lead in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on four hits. The Aztecs were able to keep the Bulldogs off the board through six innings, taking a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
The Bulldogs' offense was able to breakthrough in the bottom of the seventh. Vanessa M. Hernandez smacked a leadoff double to right field, and Kacey Hvitved moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Williams brought in the first run of the day for Fresno State with a two-out double off the center-field wall. Avery Lawley extended the rally with an RBI single to left field. The Aztecs spoiled the comeback win making the play at first on the next at bat to end the game.
