'Dogs fall in midweek matchup

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team fell 3-0 to LMU in a midweek matchup on Wednesday night at Margie Wright Diamond.
The Bulldogs were outhit 8-2 in the contest. Fresno State's two hits came from Alyssa Orr and Keahilele Mattson. Casey Dixon and Cassidy West split time in the circle.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
LMU loaded the bases in the first inning with one out, but Fresno State turned a clutch 1-2-3 double play to end the inning. The Lions retired the Bulldogs in order to get back up to the plate.
LMU tallied back-to-back base hits and followed with back-to-back sacrifice bunts to plate a run. The Lions retired 13 out of the next 14 batters to hold the 1-0 lead going into the sixth inning. Orr drew a two-out walk and Keahilele Mattson hit a single to get two on base. LMU's second basemen made the play on the next at bat to keep the one-run lead going into the final inning.
The Lions put up two insurance runs in the top of the seventh off thee hits. LMU's defense was able to get three straight outs to secure the win and the shutout.

Fresno State will face San Jose State on the road April 1-3.
