'Dogs earn academic honors

WACO, Texas - The National Collegiate Equestrian Association announced its academic awards on Friday, naming the qualified student-athletes to an APHA All-Academic team and to the APHA Academic Honor roll for their success both in the arena and in the classroom during the 2021-22 academic year.

Fresno State had eight first team all-academic selections, and four for both second team and honorable mention teams. The Bulldogs had 21 student-athletes selected to the academic honor roll this season. Fresno State's eight first team all-academic selections are its most in a season in program history.

Leading the way as first team selections are Bailey Alexander, Ana Bertozzi, Hannah Buijs, Cecily Hayes, Taylor Holstead, Grace Mathias, Emily Maul and Sara Tuck. First team selections must have competed in a minimum of 70 percent of their school's meets, not including demo or exhibition rides while also earning a cumulative GPA of 3.5 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

Fresno State's second team honorees include Julianne Kelley, Alex Krebs, Lexee Padrick and Lizzie Stodden. Second team honorees must have competed in a minimum of 60 percent of their school's meets, not including demo or exhibition rides.Academically, they must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.
The Bulldogs earning honorable mention honors are Hannah Hieber, Ashley Jackson, Alexis Steele and Addison Welman. For honorable mention, riders must have competed in a minimum of 50 percent of their school's meets, not including demo or exhibition rides. In the classroom, they must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.
