Steele homers in series finale loss

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Fresno State softball team fell in the series finale against New Mexico 4-1 on Saturday morning at the Lobo Softball Field.
Fresno State was outhit 6-5 in the contest. Sophomore Mackenna Steele had a team-best two hits with one home run. In the circle, Cassidy West and Casey Dixon split time in the circle. West dished a season-high nine strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
New Mexico had back-to-back double to start the second inning, plating the first run of the game.
Fresno State chalked its first hit in the fourth inning with a one-out base hit from Keahilele Mattson, followed by a drawn walk. The Bulldogs were left stranded after the Lobos made back-to-back plays to end the inning.
New Mexico extended its lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs on three hits.
Fresno State avoided a shutout with a solo shot from Steele in seventh inning, but the 'Dogs would fall short of the comeback.

Fresno State will travel to face Cal Poly in a single game on Tuesday, April 19.
