FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 71-ranked Fresno State women's tennis team defeated San Diego State Aztecs 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno.

Fresno State (14-3, 4-0 Mountain West) is now alone in first place in the Mountain West standings after the first two weekends of conference play.

How it happened: The Bulldogs earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, and then built a 2-0 lead after Pang Jittakoat won her eight straight match at No. 1 singles (all in straight sets).

Carolina Piferi added the next point in singles for the 'Dogs to remain undefeated at No. 6 singles this season.

Fresno State's A.C. Hummel then delivered the clincher by rallying to win in three sets at No. 4 singles in her final home match on Senior Day.

Team Notes:

Fresno State is now on a six-match winning streak and has won seven of its last eight matches.
Fresno State has now won 13 straight home matches dating back to February 2021 (12 at Wathen).
Fresno State has now earned the doubles point in 11 of its 17 matches this season.
In singles, Fresno State's rotation improved to 60-24 (.714) overall with more wins than losses at each slot this season.
As a team, Fresno State also improved to 26-18 in doubles (12-4 at the No. 1 doubles slot) this season.
Fresno State improved to 29-8 overall (12-2 in MW matches) in head coach Denise Dy's two seasons coaching the Bulldogs.
This was Fresno State's first win over a ranked opponent this season.
For the sixth consecutive week, the Fresno State women's tennis team is ranked nationally (No. 71) in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Fresno State's Pang Jittakoat improved to 14-3 in singles matches this season (12-3 at No. 1 singles) and owns an eight-match singles winning streak (all eight in straight sets at the top position).
Fresno State's Carolina Piferi is now on a 10-match singles winning streak with a 12-1 record in singles (9-0 at No. 6 singles).

Next up: Fresno State will travel to play in San Jose on April 8-9 to play San Jose State and Nevada.
