'Dogs top Lobos, 11-1 to open series

FRESNO, Calif. - Getting both a dominant starting pitching performance and 16 hits offensively, the Diamond 'Dogs raced past New Mexico, 11-1 on Friday evening at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

Fresno State (14-15, 8-5 MW) got home runs from Payton Allen, Josh Lauck, Vinny Bologna and an inside-the-park blast from Tommy Hopfe which was more than enough for starting pitcher Ixan Henderson to earn his sixth victory of the season.

Henderson matched his career high with 7.0 innings limiting the Lobos to three hits, one earned run, two walks and came one strikeout shy of matching his career best finishing with 11.

Ten different Bulldogs tallied a hit and seven scored a run with Fresno State reaching double-digit runs for the fourth time this season.

How It Happened
The 'Dogs jumped on the board first with three runs in the second as Hopfe led off with his inside-the-park fireworks which was followed by a solo shot to right by Allen. Andrew Kachel followed with an RBI triple down the right field line and a wild pitch in the third allowed Zach Morgan to score for a 4-0 lead.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 7-0 in the fifth with three more runs coming in to score as Lauck led off with his sixth home run of 2022 followed by runs from Morgan and Hopfe.

The Lobos got their lone run in the sixth as a leadoff walk came around to score on an RBI double by Lenny Junior Ashby, but the designated hitter was thrown out at third trying to stretch his base knock to a triple.

A four-run seventh inning closed the scoring for the 'Dogs as Allen bounced an RBI single back up the middle and Bologna drilled a three-run long ball to left for an 11-1 lead.
