Two Bulldogs hit homers in Friday's series opener in Reno.
RENO, Nev. – The Fresno State softball team lost 6-4 at the Nevada Wolf Pack in the Mountain West series opener on Friday at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park.
Fresno State (17-33, 8-11 Mountain West) led for most of the game, but couldn't close the game out despite some great swings, defensive plays and pitching performances throughout the contest.
Keahilele Mattson and Taryn Irigoyen each hit home runs for the Bulldogs on a windy afternoon in Reno.
How it happened: Fresno State built a 2-0 over Nevada with a run on Alesia Denby's RBI single in the first and another in the fourth courtesy of a solo home run crushed by Keahilele Mattson through the wind out over the right field fence.
In the circle, Marley Hanlon – who made her 13th start of the season – didn't allow a hit or run until the fourth when Charlie Hawkins led off with a solo homer to right.
Cassidy West pitched the final three innings and recorded three strikeouts, but a defensive error in the fifth turned into two unearned runs and a 3-2 for the Wolf Pack.
Irigoyen answered with her first career home run – a two-run shot in the seventh – to launch the Bulldogs to a 4-3 advantage in the final frame.
Yet, the Wolf Pack finished off the comeback with a walk-off 3-run homer that carried past the left field fence.
