'Dogs in the Pros: Spring Update

FRESNO, Calif. - With the official start of summer next week and the start of the MLB Draft just over a month away, let's take a look at the 21 former Diamond 'Dogs in the major and minor leagues have fared so far this spring.
Majors
Aaron Judge, Outfielder, New York Yankees
Judge is off to a blazing start to the season through the Yankees' first 61 games leading the major league with 24 home runs, second with 52 runs scored and tops the team in hits (71), RBI (48 - 4th in MLB), walks (29), on-base percentage (.385) and slugging percentage (.674).
With hits in 44 games, Judge has been consistent all season and went for a season-high four hits on June 3 with a home run and two runs scored in a 13-0 win over the Detroit Tigers.
The Yankees are 45-16 overall and have the best record in the MLB while leading the AL East by nine games.
RHP Jimmy Lambert – Chicago White Sox/Charlotte Knights (Class AAA)
Splitting time between the Chicago White Sox and Triple-A Charlotte, Lambert was called back up to the big league club on in early June after making five starts for the Knights.
Lambert made a pair of starts for the White Sox in April before heading down to Charlotte where he worked 12.2 innings striking out 12 while walking five.
His last outing came in the majors with the White Sox on June 14 tossing two innings striking out a pair in a 5-1 win at the Detroit Tigers. Chicago is 30-31 and third in the AL Central.
LHP Dylan Lee – Atlanta Braves/Gwinnett Stripers (Class AAA)
Called up to the Braves on May 23, Lee has made eight relief appearances for the defending World Series champions.
The Dinuba native has worked 11.2 innings and earned a win on June 13 at the Washington Nationals striking out a season-best three.
In 14 relief appearances earlier this season in Triple-A Gwinnett, Lee went 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA converting two saves striking out 23 strikeouts in 15.2 innings. Atlanta is 36-27 overall and second in the NL East.
Jordan Luplow, Outfielder, Arizona Diamondbacks
In 37 games in his first season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Clovis native has 15 hits while tying for fifth on the club with seven home runs.
Luplow drew 12 walks, drove in 15 RBI and scored 17 runs and has tallied a hit in 12 contests. The Diamondbacks are 29-35 sitting in fourth in the NL West Division.
Justin Wilson, Pitcher, Cincinnati Reds
Wilson made five relief appearances earlier this season for the Cincinnati Reds before being placed on the 60-day injured list on April and underwent Tommy John surgery in early June that will sideline for the remainder of the season.
In 3.2 innings, Wilson only allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out seven while walking none.
Taylor Ward,Outfielder, Los Angeles Angels
Much like Judge, Ward has gotten off to a hot start seeing action in 39 games hitting .324 from the plate with 44 hits in 136 at-bats .
The former All-American recently returned from injury on June 14 after returning from the injured list recovering from a hamstring strain. Ward has smacked 10 home runs, driven in 26 RBI and scored 30 runs while recording three, three-hit contests and added 12 multi-hit games.
The Angels are 29-34 overall and third in the AL West.
Austin Wynns, Catcher, San Francisco Giants
The final Bulldog to see time in the major leagues this season, Wynns was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies organization to the Giants on June 8 and has played in five games for San Francisco.
The San Diego native has five hits with two hits apiece in his first two games as the Giants have won four of the five games he has played in and are 35-26 overall,
Minors
Carter Bins, Catcher, Indianapolis Indians (Pirates AAA)
Bins got the season started at Double A Altoona Curve seeing action in 14 games collecting six hits, including four doubles and a home run, and scored five runs before being promoted to Triple A Indianapolis on May 10.
In 18 contests with the Indians, the Fairfield native has 12 base knocks with three doubles and three home runs along with eight runs scored and 11 RBIs.
Notching four two-hit performances in Indianapolis, Bins went 2-for-4 with a double, home run & three RBI in a 13-2 win on June 1 against Omaha (Royals AAA).
Indianapolis is 30-29 overall and is tied for fifth in the International League West Division.
Jordan Brink, Pitcher, El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres AAA)
Signing with the Padres in the offseason after spending time in the Rays organization, Brink has gotten his first taste of Triple A this season making 18 appearances in relief for the El Paso Chihuahaus.
Over 19.2 innings of work, the Fresno native has earned a pair of wins vs. Reno (Diamondbacks AAA) on April 30 and Sugar Land (Astros AAA) on May 24 while striking out 24 and walked 10.
Brink was placed on the 7-day injured list on June 7 after his last appearance on June 4. El Paso is 35-26 on the season and second in the Pacific Coast League East Division.
Jaime Arias, Pitcher, Akron RubberDucks (Indians AA)
Arias has seen action over three levels this season getting started in High-A earning a win on April 9 with the Lake County Captains before making a start in Triple A on April 21 against Indianapolis (Indians AAA).
Moving down to Double A, the Woodland native has made five starts and six appearances for the Akron RubberDucks striking out 21 in 21.1 innings. and went a season-long 4.2 innings in his last start on June 5 against Richmond (Giants AA).
Akron is 33-25 and second in the Eastern League Southwest Division.
Ryan Jensen, Pitcher, Tennessee Smokies (Cubs AA)
Jensen made five starts in Double A for the Tennessee Smokies tossing 16.1 innings and struck out 18 before finding his way to the Developmental List on May 9.
The 2019 Mountain West Pitcher of the Year and All-American entered the season as the No. 17 prospect in the Chicago Cubs farm system and third-highest ranked right-handed pitcher.
Zach Ashford, Outfielder, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets AA)
Ashford has spent his entire season in Double A with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies playing in 41 games while hitting .223 and has seen 10 of his 29 hits go for extra bases.
Notching hits in 25 games, the Clovis native has four games with two hits and smacked a triple, scored a run and drove in three RBI on May 27 in a 6-4 win over Reading (Phillies AA).
The Rumble Ponies are 21-36 on the season and sixth in the Eastern League Northeast Division.
Tyler Thomas, Pitcher, Frisco RoughRiders (Rangers AA)
After making his season debut in Triple A on April 8 earning a win over El Paso (Padres AAA), Thomas has made 13 relief appearances tossing 20.0 innings striking out 24 while walking 18.
Tossing over an inning or more in nine outings, Thomas threw a season-best 3.1 innings in two games and struck out a season-high five against Midland (Athletics AA) on April 30.
Frisco is 29-29 overall and tied for second in the Texas League South Division.
Edgar Gonzalez, Pitcher, Springfield Cardinals (Cardinals AA)
Gonzalez has been on the 60-day injured list this season for Springfield who is 24-34 and fifth in the Texas League North Division.
Fred Schlichtholz, Pitcher, San Antonio Missions (Padres AA)
Schlichtholz has made four relief appearances this season for the High-A Fort Wayne TinCaps earning a win on June 10 over the Lake County Captains (Indians High-A) tossing 1.1 innings and striking out two in a 2-1 win.
He was promoted to Double A San Antonio on June 14 who lead the Texas League South Division with a 30-26 overall record.
Davis Moore, Pitcher, Wilmington Blue Rocks (Nationals High-A)
Moore has been on the 60-day injured list this season after appearing in 33 games in relief between Single-A and High-A in 2021.
McCarthy Tatum, Pitcher, Jersey Shore BlueClaws (Phillies High-A)
Tatum saw action in 32 games in High-A with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws before being sidelined by injury on May 20.
The Clovis native is hitting .266 on the season with 29 hits, including six doubles and three home runs, along with scoring 17 runs and has driven in 18 RBIs.
The 2019 Tony Gwynn Co-Player of the Year has racked up hits in 24 games and drove in three RBI on May 12 smacking a two-run long ball. Jersey Shore is 23-35 overall and sixth in the South Atlantic League North Division.
Jamison Hill, Pitcher, Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks High-A)
Hill has made 10 starts for High-A Hillsboro posting a 1-4 mark with an impressive 3.30 ERA.
The San Diego native has struck out 46 in 43.2 innings while holding opponents to a .219 average.
He earned a win on May 14 against Spokane (Rockies High-A) going a season-high five innings limiting the Indians to one hit while striking out four. The Hops are 26-30 and fourth in the Northwest League.
JT Arruda, Infielder, Fredericksburg Nationals (Nationals Single-A)
Starting the season on the injured list, Arruda made his return to the field on a rehab assignment with the FCL Nationals seeing action in three games before moving up to Class A Fredericksburg on June 12.
EJ Andrews, Jr., Outfielder, Fresno Grizzlies (Rockies Single-A)
After being a 13th-round selection of the Colorado Rockies in last season's MLB Draft, Andrews Jr. is in his first full season in the minors seeing time in Single-A with the Fresno Grizzlies.
The Long Beach native has appeared in 38 games with 26 hits with 12 going for extra bases, including eight doubles, two triples and two home runs.
He has driven in 15 RBI, drawn 15 walks and scored 18 runs with base knocks in 19 contests. In a 11-10 win at Modesto (Mariners Single-A) on June 3, Andrews, Jr. had three hits and three RBIs.
The Grizzlies are 39-19 and lead the California League North Division.
Ryan Higgins, Infielder, Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles Single-A)
Joining Andrews, Jr. as a 2021 MLB Draft selection, Higgins is also in his first full season in the minors with the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds.
In 38 games, the Atherton native has 24 hits with 10 extra-base knocks along with 16 RBI and 22 runs.
With base hits in 20 games, Higgins last appeared in a game on May 26 and was placed on the 7-day injured list on May 31.
The Shorebirds are 19-38 on the season and sixth in the Carolina League North Division.
Majors
