Morgan named Gold Glove Finalist

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State redshirt junior catcher Zach Morgan has been named one of three finalists for the Divison I American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Gold Glove team, as announced by the organizations on Monday.

Morgan earned All-Mountain West first team honors and has been named a Buster Posey National Catcher of the Year finalist while leading the team and ranking fifth in the MW hitting .381 from the dish.
In addition, the Stockton native topped the club and ranked among the top 10 in the MW in hits (83), doubles (20) and on-base percentage (.454) and showed great discipline at the plate drawing 25 walks while only being struck out 17 times.
Behind the plate defensively, Morgan started all 55 games for the 'Dogs with a .987 fielding percentage, tossed out 20 would-be base stealers and added 460 putouts.
Joined by Connor Burns from Long Beach State and Michael Carico of Davidson, Morgan will now be eligible for the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove team at catcher which will be announced on Wednesday.
The finalists are voted on and selected by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America committee, which is chaired by Tommy Raffo of Arkansas State University.
The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007 and are presented annually to the top defensive players from each division of collegiate and high school baseball.
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 33 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth.
