Kachel selected by Giants in MLB Draft

FRESNO, Calif. - Junior infielder Andrew Kachel was selected in the 16th round by the San Francisco Giants on the final day of the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.
Taken with the 496th overall selection, Kachel becomes the 89th MLB draft selection under head coach Mike Batesole since the skipper became head coach of the Bulldogs in 2003.
Appearing in 52 games for the Bulldogs this past spring, the Gilroy native hit .302 from the plate with 61 hits while tying for the team lead with 11 home runs. He tied for third in the Mountain West in triples with five and led the team and ranked ninth in the MW with 29 walks.
Ranking second on the team with 42 runs scored, Kachel was one of three 'Dogs with over 100 total bases with 113, added 34 RBI and six stolen bases.
Kachel has totaled 113 career games at Fresno State while making 111 starts. He has accumulated 133 hits, 21 doubles, seven triples, 24 home runs, 79 RBI and scored 90 runs while hitting .312 from the plate.
