'Dogs complete sweep over Broncos

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team got back on the winning track on Saturday evening breezing past Santa Clara in a sweep at the Santa Clara Invitational at Leavey Center.
Fresno State (4-4) took sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 over Santa Clara (3-5) to complete its third sweep of the season.
How It Happened
Getting off to a strong start in the opening set, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 14-9 lead after a kill from Addison Haluska. A 10-3 run by the Broncos put the home team back on top, 19-17, but four straight points from the 'Dogs got the visitors back on top by a pair. A kill from Lauren Sabbatini put Fresno State out in front by a point, 23-22 and after one more tie from the Broncos, an attack error by Santa Clara and a service ace by Sydney Gazzaniga gave the Bulldogs the set.
An even start in the second set saw an early 12-12 tie, but a quick 7-1 run by the 'Dogs pushed Fresno State up, 19-13. Getting block assists from Kasey Purry and Preslee Lillard, the Bulldogs took a 22-15 lead and kept a seven-point lead for the rest of the set, closing out with a kill from Grace Doyle.
Another even start in the third set saw ties at 9,10,11,13,15 & 18 before the Bulldogs scored seven of the set's final eight points. The 'Dogs notched five kills, including three from Ella Rud, and a pair of service aces from Sabbatini to secure the sweep.
