FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets to San Diego State on Tuesday evening at the Save Mart Center.
Fresno State (6-9, 0-3 MW) dropped sets, 18-25, 21-25, 21-25 to San Diego State (4-10, 2-1 MW).
How It Happened
With a kill from Ella Rud tying the opening set at 12 apiece, the Aztecs went on a 7-2 run to take a five-point lead. After an attack error and a kill by Addison Haluska pulled the Bulldogs back within three at 19-16, SDSU closed out the set with another run, this time going on a 6-2 run for the 25-18 win.
Another tight set ensued in the second set with a kill from Grace Doyle tying the set at 13. Much like the opening set, the Aztecs answered with a run reeling off six straight points for a 19-13 lead. With SDSU holding a five-point lead at 22-17, the 'Dogs cut SDSU's lead down to one with four straight points registering a pair of kills, an attack error and a service ace by Rud. That was as close as the Bulldogs could get with the Aztecs scoring the final three points of the frame.
Staying close throughout the third set, the Bulldogs could not get over the hump as they were unable to take a lead at any point in the set. Pulling within one at 13-12 after a kill by Rud, a 6-1 run by the Aztecs extended SDSU's lead to 19-13. A 4-0 run by the 'Dogs cut the Aztecs' lead to 22-19 and after getting within two on a kill by Rud, SDSUÂ got a kill and an attack error to seal the sweep.
