LAS VEGAS – In a match that saw action at both ends with 28 total shots, the goalkeepers stood tall during a 0-0 draw between Fresno State and UNLV on Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Valentina Vivas provided a season-high seven saves, coming up time and time again for the Bulldogs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With both teams looking to close out the weekend with a win, the opening 20 minutes had end-to-end play with the 'Dogs and Rebels both getting chances. UNLV totaled five shots while the 'Dogs had four. Each keeper produced a pair of stops and saw a third attempt get blocked.
UNLV began to pick up its pressure in the offensive third, totaling 12 shots in the opening 45 minutes, but with five saves, Valentina Vivas was able to keep the home side off the board.
Two of the best opportunities of the afternoon came in the final 11 minutes. First, it was a UNLV header in the 79th minute that appeared destined for the back of the net but Vivas got a hand on it to knock it away. In the 87th minute, Ciara Wilson saw a ball drop to her just inside the top of the box. The sophomore's shot toward the left post though was stopped by Hanne Breur.
