Bulldogs open 2023-2024 season with the Fresno State Invitational

FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State Swim & Dive will open the 2023-24 season at home hosting the Fresno State Invitational at the Fresno State Aquatics Center this Friday and Saturday.
Fresno State will host four teams this weekend in a three session meet. Broken into three sessions, the four teams will compete in two sessions on Friday and one session on Saturday. The Bulldogs will see Mountain West foes San Diego State & San Jose State along with UCLA, Washington State this weekend.
BULLDOG BONES
The Bulldogs will see twenty-one returners and seven freshmen competing this season.
Last season the 'Dogs took 5th place in the Mountain West Championship, setting three program records on the final day of MW Championships.
Senior Mackenzie Hutler set a new program record for the 100 Fly at Mountain West Championships finishing 9th with a 53.81.
Sophomore Aliz Kalmar also set a new program record for the 100 Breast at Mountain West Championships with a 1:01.14 for a 5th place finish.
We will see a return of the new 200 Free Relay record holders (Mackenzie Hutler, Eleonora Trentin, Samarah Melia and Wiktoria Dabrowska). This relay set a new program record at Mountain West Championships with a 1:31.47 and placed 2nd.
The Bulldogs will host 5 more home meets this season, Oct. 28, Nov. 3, Jan. 12-13, Jan. 16 and Jan. 20 (Senior Night.)
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
UCLA
- Won then-Fresno State Chick-fil-A Invitational last year.
- Diver Eden Cheng was named 2023 Pac-12 Freshman Diver of the Year.
- Placed 4th at the Pac-12 Championship last season
- Had five swimmers qualify for the 2022 NCAA Championships
San Diego State
- Placed 2nd at then-Fresno State Chick-fil-A Invitational last year
- Won their second straight Mountain West Championship (2022,2023)
- Won season opener versus University of San Diego
- Had three swimmers qualify for NCAA Championship last season
San Jose State
- Placed 7th at then-Fresno State Chick-fil-A Invitational last year
- Won season opener versus Nevada
- Finished 8th at the Mountain West Championship last season
- Finished 19th at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship last season
Washington State
- Placed 4th at then-Fresno State Chick-fil-A Invitational last year
- Broke three school records on the final day of Pac-12 Championships
- Had two freshman qualify for NCAA Championships last season, first time in program history
