'Dogs top Eagles & Sunbirds to open Fresno State Invite

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State water polo team opened the Fresno State Invite on Saturday with a pair of wins defeating Biola, 14-8 and Fresno Pacific, 17-2 at the Fresno State Aquatics Center.
Fresno State (6-7) was led by three goals apiece from Brooke Ochoa and Jillian Schultz against Biola with eight other Bulldogs notching one goal apiece.
In the nightcap versus the Sunbirds, Schultz and Elisa Grim led the 'Dogs with three goals apiece with Ochoa, McKenney and Daphne Guevremont adding two goals apiece.
How It Happened vs. Biola
The Eagles opened the contest with a goal, but five of the next six goals went to the 'Dogs who led 5-2 after the opening quarter.
A goal by Ochoa put the Bulldogs up four and a goal by Cynthina Rosa kept the 'Dogs ahead by four leading 8-4 at the break.
A goal from Kelsey McKenney got the fourth quarter started for the 'Dogs for a 13-5 lead and one final goal from Schultz rounded out the scoring for Fresno State in the win.
In goal, goalkeepers Paula Nieto Jasny and Kelly Villanueva combined for six saves.
How It Happened vs. Fresno Pacific
Leading from start to finish, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the opening quarter and extended it to an 8-2 lead at the halftime break after a goal from Guevremont.
Five goals for the 'Dogs in the third quarter put Fresno State ahead 13-2 and four more goals in the fourth quarter completed the scoring as the Bulldogs kept FPU off the scoreboard in the second half.
In goal, Nieto Jasny and Abigayle Armstrong combined for 13 saves as the two goals were the fewest that Fresno State has allowed in a game in program history.
