SAN DIEGO - The No. 8 Fresno State water polo team moved its winning streak to five on Saturday afternoon defeating No. 23 San Diego State, 13-5 at Aztec Aquaplex.
Fresno State (9-7, 2-0 GCC) saw eight Bulldogs score a goal led by three apiece from Brooke Ochoa and Jillian Schultz.
Hailey Andress added a pair of scores while Cynthia Rosa, Kaitlin Howarth, Elisa Grim, Ella Simone and Isabella Sonkoly each tacked on one.
In goal, Paula Nieto Jasny made 10 saves and notched a .667 save percentage.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs got the scoring started early with a goal from Ochoa in the opening minute and added three more first-quarter goals for a 4-1 lead after the first eight minutes of action.
A goal by the Aztecs to start the second quarter momentarily cut the 'Dogs lead down to two, 4-2, but nine straight goals over the next two-plus quarters for the Bulldogs increased Fresno State's lead to 13-2.
The Aztecs added three late goals, but the Bulldogs' large lead was more than enough cushion to seal the win.
Up next
The 'Dogs return home for their GCC home opener next Saturday hosting Concordia (11-7) at 12 p.m. PT.
