FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State Invitational began on Friday afternoon with the hammer taking center stage. The Bulldog women turned in a 2-3-4-6 finish with former 'Dogs claiming first and fifth.
Amelia DiPaola led through five rounds with a toss of 61.03m/200-3 but was passed in the sixth by Fresno State record holder Nadia Maffo. DiPaola's last mark of 61.35m/201-3 was her best of the event but it wasn't enough.
For the second straight meet, Jocelyn Budwig reset her personal best, this time by more than a meter which put her in third. On her second attempt, the senior landed a mark of 58.94m/193-4 that moved her to No. 9 on the program's all-time list.
Trinity Williams followed in fourth with a near five-meter PR on her first attempt. The senior's mark of 56.44m/185-2 was nearly seven meters farther than she had thrown this season.
With former Bulldog Tahj'nee Thurston placing fifth, Cierra Jackson claimed the sixth spot. Throwing the hammer in just the second meet of her career the sophomore added another three meters to her PR landing a throw of 54.56m/179-0.
The meet will shift to Veterans Memorial Stadium tomorrow and begin at 10 a.m. PT.
