'Dogs stumble against Falcon offense

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Fresno State baseball team dropped game two of the series against the Air Force Academy Falcons 13-4 on Friday afternoon.

The 'Dogs now sit at 15-14 on the season (7-6 Mountain West) and the Falcons improved to 13-19 (7-7 MW).

NOTES:

Bobby Blandford hit back-to-back doubles to the 24-foot-tall right field wall.
Trevor Garcia held the Falcons scoreless for three innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
On the first pitch of the game, Grady Morgan led off with a double to the wall in left-center.

The Falcons loaded the bases in the bottom of the second and were first on the board after three singles plated four runs. AFA scored three more runs off a hard-hit home run to left field to make it a 7-0 game at the end of the inning.

Three consecutive hits in the top of the third put the Bulldogs on the board for the first time. Morgan singled to right, followed by Bobby Blandford's fifth double of the season. They both crossed the plate after a single from Mountain West Freshman of the Week Murf Gray singled through the left side. In the bottom of the inning, Air Force scored another run on three hits and two left on base.

AFA led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to left field, but Trevor Garcia was able to hold the Falcons down and toss two strikeouts to close out the inning, and held them scoreless for three more innings.

The Falcons chalked up four more runs in the bottom of the eighth after a powerful double to centerfield and three singles, which made it a 13-2 ballgame.

The Bulldogs led off the top of the ninth with singles from Marco Pirruccello and Ben Newton, followed by an RBI double from Sammy Augustine before the rally ended.
