'Dogs unable to suppress Mustang Offense

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team dropped its final 2023 matchup with the Cal Poly Mustangs in an 11-6 loss at Baggett Stadium on Tuesday night.
With the loss, the Bulldogs now own a 27-25 overall record while the Mustangs sit at 19-31 on the season.
NOTES:
- Travis Welker and Murf Gray led the team as both brought in a pair of RBIs.
- Robbie Peters spent a season-high 2.1 innings on the mound and accumulated four strikeouts, the most he has had in 2023.
- Payton Allen crossed the plate a season-high three times for the 'Dogs today on only two hits on the night, a double and a single.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mustangs scored seven unanswered runs in the first four innings of the game with five hits.
Fresno State got on the board in the top of the fifth with a two-RBI single from Travis Welker to score Payton Allen and Bobby Blandford.
Another run was added to the Fresno State total with an RBI single from Murf Gray in the sixth, but Cal Poly tacked on three runs in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double and single.
NIkoh Mitchell, Murf Gray and Ben Newton brought in three more runs for Fresno State in the seventh and eighth, but the 'Dogs were not able to catch up to the Mustangs and fell 11-6.
UP NEXT: The Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season with a pair of games against St. Mary's at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium on Thursday and Friday starting at 6:05 p.m. PT.
