TORONTO - Former Fresno State offensive lineman Dontae Bull was selected as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 Canadian Football League Draft on Tuesday. Bull was drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks.
Bull, a native of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, was a six-year player for the Bulldogs. Bull appeared in 41 career games, starting in 33 of those games on the offensive line. Bull was a part of a Bulldog offensive line that helped produce some of the top offensive numbers around the Mountain West for the last three seasons.
With five Canadian players chosen last weekend in the NFL Draft and two others signing as undrafted free agents, there were three players left from the Top-10 in the CFL Scouting Bureau's spring rankings. Of those three, defensive lineman Lwal Uguak received a mini-camp invite from the New York Giants. Southern Utah defensive lineman Francis Bemiy and Fresno State offensive lineman Bull were the lone top-10 ranked players without an NFL connection.
