'Dogs drop heartbreaker to Cowgirls

LARAMIE, WY. - Fresno State women's tennis team falls in a tough heart-breaker to the Cowgirls on Friday afternoon at UW Tennis Complex, 4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State started with the consistent double lineup of Matilde Magrini and Misaki Kobayashi at No.1, Carolina Piferi and Eliza Dunbar at No. 2 and Charlotte Gisclon and Hannah Pieper at No. 3. Wyoming's Ante/Malinak def. Gisclon/Pieper, 6-1. Doubles point went to the Cowgirls when Brink/Dobroliva defeated Piferi/ Dunbar, 6-3.
Wyoming held the lead going into singles play and extended it by taking the first match with Wyomings' Brink defeating Kobayashi, 6-0, 6-1. Bulldogs' were able to tie it up, 2-2, taking the next two singles matches. After Piferi at No. 3 defeats Borodina; 6-1, 5-7, 6-0. Gisclon took the next match defeating Ante at No. 4; 7-5, 6-4.
To bring the Bulldogs the lead, Matilde Magrini defeated Zehender at No. 1, 7-5, 7(7)-6(5). On the edge of a win, Fresno State was looking towards their final two players on the court, Mariya Vyshkina and Pieper, Bulldogs were looking strong as they took the first set. Wyomings' Dobroliva brought the Cowgirls back in for another tie, 3-3, after defeating Vyshkina 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
The final match underway, for the win, between Pieper and Malinak. Wyoming got the best of a tiebreaker in the second set. Pieper was unable to make a comeback in the third set, falling 6-2.

- Mariya Vyshkina earns her first win at No. 5 this season and her first singles win since Feb. 23 at BYU (No. 4)
- Carolina Piferi continues her win streak at No. 3 with her fifth consecutive win and 14th singles win this season
- Charlotte Gisclon earns her third win at No. 4 singles this season and has won back-to-back matches in that flight
- Fresno State looks for another opportunity to earn their first conference road win this season as they travel to Colorado State next
