Bulldogs earn 10-8 win over No. 5 TCU

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 8 Fresno State equestrian team handed No. 5 TCU its first conference loss of the season, defeating the Horned Frogs 10-8 on Friday afternoon at the Student Horse Center. Fresno State improves to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Big 12 play.

The Bulldogs defeated TCU for the first time since Oct. 2, 2021 and defeated a Top 5 opponent for the seventh consecutive year.

Abby Goddard earned both Western Most Outstanding Performer honors while Ryley Ferguson earned the flat MOP against TCU.

How it happened
TCU earned a 3-2 win in the fences to open the meet. Fresno State won the first two points from Paris Mahoney and Bridey Jones, but the Horned Frogs closed out the event with three-straight.

The Bulldogs tied things up in the horsemanship, winning the event 3-2. Emma Hanson opened things up with a 76-70.25 win over Piper Keller. Shelby Robinette was edged by half a point in her ride before Hailey Olson picked up her point on the next ride. Abby Goddard earned her horsemanship point with a 75.75-75 win over Sydney Feager.

The teams were tied 5-5 at the intermission.

The Bulldogs continued the western advantage with a 3-1-1 win in the reining. Adrianna Runzo started things off with a 70.75 tie. From there the Bulldogs won three in-a-row with points from Brogan Hill, Goddard and Shelby Robinette. Goddard picked up her second MOP point of the day with a career-high 72.

At the end of the reining, Fresno State led 8-6.

Molly Stewart earned an 80 in her flat ride for a tie in the first matchup. Sage Lindvall earned her point with a 74 to her opponent's 70.5. TCU picked up the next two points and the meet came down to the final ride from TCU's Jordyn Scelsa. The Horned Frog scored a 77.5 to Ryley Ferguson's 78, giving the Bulldogs their 10th point of the afternoon and avoiding the overall team tie.
