'Dogs face first road test of the season

FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 6 Fresno State equestrian team gears up for its first road trip of the season, traveling to Texas to take on No. 10 Baylor and No. 4 Texas A&M in a pair of road meets this weekend.

- Fresno State looks ahead to its first travel weekend of the season
- The Bulldogs have started the season 2-0 for the second year in a row
- Fresno State has defeated two Top 10 teams this season, the first time with back-to-back ranked wins since the first two meets of the 2021-22 season

Starting strong
Fresno State defeated No. 10 South Dakota State 15-4 in the season opener on October 10. It was the largest margin of victory over a ranked opponent in program history. The Bulldogs followed up a week later and defeated No. 5 TCU 10-8, snapping a 10-meet losing streak to the Horned Frogs.

Western Queen
Senior Abby Goddard has competed in the lineup in both western events this season. It is her first year in the reining lineup, and she has begun her career on a good note. After narrowly losing her point to South Dakota State 66.5-66, she bounced back against TCU and earned the Most Outstanding Performer honors with a 72-70.75 win.

She went on to sweep the western MOP honors against the Horned Frogs, earning her second horsemanship MOP of the season with a 75.75-75 win. Goddard is a combined 3-1 with MOP honors in all three wins in her western rides this season.

Not the freshman anymore
Fresno State returned Paris Mahoney as an All-American from a season ago. The young Bulldog picked up where she left off, opening the season with a 2-0 fences record and 1-1 mark in the flat. She earned the flat MOP against South Dakota State with a 88, the highest score by a Bulldog this season.

Keepin' it in the family
The current Bulldog roster has a handful of familiar names on it. Isabella Bertozzi enters her third season with the Bulldogs as the younger sister of former Bulldog standout Ana Bertozzi. Freshmen Lucia Nunes, Lilly Gilson and Addison Mathias are all following in the footsteps of their older sisters. Lucia, the younger sister of current Bulldog Mia Nunes, gets to share the experience with her sister for one year. Gilson is the younger sister of former Bulldog reiner Shea Gilson (2016-20) while Mathias is the younger sister of Grace Mathias who completed her final year of eligibility last season.
