USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Fresno State women's soccer team dropped their final road game of the season on Sunday when the Bulldogs fell to Air Force by a final score of 2-1 at Cadet Soccer Stadium.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State opened with a chance by Alexis Campbell in the fourth minute of the match, but the senior was denied by the Air Force netminder. After holding Air Force without a shot in the first fifteen, the Bulldogs broke through with a goal by Klara Chapeyrout who sent a strike into the top of the net to give Fresno State a 1-0 lead.
A pair of shots by Air Force in the 24th minute were saved by Shivani Battaglia, but Air Force's persistence in the Bulldogs zone paid off when the Eagles tied the game eight minutes later. Battaglia made a save off an Air Force shot before Annika Jost connected with a shot into the back of the net seconds later to bring the game level at one.Â
Air Force took the lead three minutes into the second half with a shot from Kendall Rippley that beat Battaglia to put the Eagles up 2-1. Despite the early second half goal, Shivani Battaglia continued to keep Fresno State within one, making three saves while the Bulldogs defense limited Air Force's chances.
WIth Air Force playing down a player in the final ten following a red card, Fresno State pushed for the tying goal. Katie Morris and Ciara Wilson recorded back-to-back scoring chances but both players saw their shots blocked by Air Force defenders. Alexis Campbell registered a shot in the 84th minute but the Air Force netminder answered with her second save of the afternoon.Â
Fresno State's final chance came from Ciara Wilson in the 87th minute as her shot to the bottom left of the goal was turned aside as the Bulldogs fell to Air Force by a final score of 2-1.
