'Dogs fall 3-0 to Lopes
10/25/2025 7:15:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State put together one of its most efficient offensive outings of the season, but it wasn't enough to overcome Grand Canyon's balanced attack as the Bulldogs fell 3–0 (19–25, 21–25, 22–25) on Saturday evening inside the Save Mart Center.
The Bulldogs (6–15, 2–8 MW) hit an impressive .288 as a team and matched the Lopes nearly point-for-point throughout the night, but GCU (13–8, 5–5 MW) capitalized on key runs late in each set to complete the sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State kept pace early behind strong swings in the first set from Haluska and Legault, tying the set at 10–10. The Lopes then strung together a 9–2 run to pull ahead, and although the Bulldogs rallied to close within four, GCU secured the opener 25–19.
The Bulldogs carried momentum into the second set, leading 12–8 midway through thanks to kills from Lombardi and Legault. Grand Canyon responded with a late surge fueled by three service aces and timely kills from Macey Hughes to edge the 'Dogs 25–21.
The final frame featured 18 ties as both teams traded points back and forth throughout. Haluska and Legault powered the Fresno State offense down the stretch, but GCU closed on a 3–0 run to seal the match.
