Bulldogs fall short against Nevada

FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno State swim and dive team fell short in their first conference dual meet of the season against Nevada at the Fresno State Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon, 162-138.Â
Ten records fell across the board on the pool deck today with Fresno State having three new record holders in four events while Nevada marked six Aquatics Center records. Mackenzie Miller Lung holds the program and Aquatic Center record in both breaststroke events. Jenna Pulkkinen marked her first non-breaststroke program record in the 100 freestyle while Ryley Clark obtained her first individual record in the 200 backstroke.Â
How it happenedÂ
Fresno State opened with a solid start in the 200 medley relay taking the event win with a time of 1:39.56 (Oke, Miller Lung, Pulkkinen, Arredondo). Nevada claimed the next three events two of which have now become Aquatic Center records.Â
Bulldogs next event win came from Mackenzie Miller Lung in the 100 breaststroke. The senior touched for a new program and Aquatics Center record with a time of 58.33 also marking a new career best. Aliz Kalmar placed second in the event, good for an NCAA standard with a time of 1:00.29.Â
Jenna Pulkkinen's event winning swim in the 50 freestyle was on the edge of the program record by just four tenths of a second. Pulkkinen found her way to a record in the following event taking the 100 free program record (49.70).Â
Fresno State found their groove taking the next two events. Ryley Clark became a first-time individual record holder. The sophomore swam a career best 1:57.01 in the 200 backstroke to break the six-year old record. Miller Lung collected her second record breaking swim in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.78) , good for another program and Aquatics Center record.Â
In the diving well, Natalia Bedolla and Grace Ally placed second and third in both diving disciplines. Bedolla scored 287.40 in the 1-meter and 293.85 in the 3-meter.Â
Ally scored 246.00 in the 1-meter and 269.75 in the 3-meter.Â
The Wolf Pack closed in to win the final three events to extend their four point lead to 36, taking down the Bulldogs in their first conference dual meet.Â
