Bulldogs' early lead fades in 5-4 loss to TCU
3/8/2025 5:00:00 PM | Baseball
FORT WORTH, TX. – The Fresno State baseball team came just short of victory against TCU in game two of the weekend series, falling 5-4 on Saturday.
The 'Dogs are now riding a three-game skid, with their record dropping to 5-9 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State took an early lead in the second inning, opening the frame with back-to-back hits from Bobby Blandford and Justin Stransky. Designated hitter Griffen Sotomayor got the 'Dogs on the board first with an RBI to score Blandford, followed by Owen Faust's first career RBI to score Stransky.
Fresno State doubled its lead in the next inning when Murf Gray launched a two-run homer that bounced out of the TCU centerfielder's glove and over the wall.
Starting pitcher Hayden Crews was sharp early, keeping the Horned Frogs off balance and scoreless through three innings. TCU broke through in the fourth with a two-run home run. Crews worked his way out of further trouble, preserving the Diamond 'Dogs' slim 4-2 advantage.
While the bullpen initially kept TCU at bay, a combination of a balk, a hit batter, and a two-run homer helped the Frogs ignite a three-run rally in the seventh that gave them their first lead of the game at 5-4.
The Horned Frogs carried their lead through the final two innings, solidifying their series win over the 'Dogs.
