'Dogs power past Aggies, 7-3

LOGAN, Utah – The Fresno State softball team defeated Utah State, 7-3, in the opening game of the series on Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (25-15, 9-5 MW) outhit the Aggies (23-17, 8-4), 10-4, marking the fewest hits Utah State has recorded in conference play this season.
Natalie Elias led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4. Kennedy Bunker and Taryn Irigoyen each added two hits, while Lauren Almeida drove in three runs with a clutch three-run home run.
Serayah Neiss got the start in the circle for Fresno State, tossing 5.0 innings with four strikeouts to improve to 10-4 on the season. Key-annah Campbell-Pu'a came on in relief and earned her second save of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs didn't waste any time getting on the board, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Natalie Elias led off with a single, Kennedy Bunker drew a walk, and Lauren Almeida reached on an error to load the bases. Taryn Irigoyen then grounded out, bringing home the runner from third.
Utah State responded in the bottom of the second. With two outs and a runner on, the Aggies launched a two-run home run to take a 2-1 lead. They added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run.
Fresno State rallied in the fifth inning. After the first two batters were retired, Elias belted a double. Bunker smashed a home run over the right field wall to tie the game 3-3.
The Bulldogs regained the lead in the next inning. Taryn Irigoyen led off with a double down the right field line and advanced to third on a single up the middle by Kealani Nitta. Madison Rey then brought Irigoyen home with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Campbell-Pu'a entered the game in the bottom of the sixth, retiring the Utah State batters in order.
Fresno State extended its lead in the top of the seventh. After the leadoff batter grounded out, Natalie Elias notched her third hit of the game with an infield single. Kennedy Bunker followed with another base hit, setting the stage for Lauren Almeida, who blasted a three-run home run to give the 'Dogs a 7-3 lead.
The Aggies had a one-out single in the bottom of the frame, but Campbell-Pu'a and the defense retired the next two batters to secure the win.
