FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team opened the Bulldog Kick off classic in dominant fashion with a run rule win in back-to-back games.Â
Fresno State opened with a shutout win, 8-0, against SIUE that featured a five inning shutout from Lauryn Carranco in her first start as a Bulldog. With momentum, Fresno State run ruled Idaho State, 9-1, to close the first day of the kickoff classic at Margie Wright Diamond.Â
How it happenedÂ
Game 1, Fresno State 8, SIUE 0
Bulldogs opened with a three run inning to set the tone against the Cougars. Natalie Elias was the first Bulldogs to score after Alyssa Ramirez hit a single up the middle. A walk by Jamie Hicks sent Tiara Westbrook as the next 'Dog to cross home plate. In her first collegiate at bat, Jayda Crosby grabbed an RBI sending Jerzie Liana home.Â
It was the three run fifth inning that sealed the deal. Ramirez once again sparked the 'Dogs up. Pitch runner Arianna Aguyao crossed first and Hicks's two RBI's called game as Liana came in hot from second and Kelani Nitta followed.Â
Carranco was unphased on the pitching mound in her first start as a Bulldog. The senior pitcher delivered five shut out innings with six strikeouts. Carranco held the Cougars to one hit in the third inning.Â

Fresno State manufactured the game's first run in the second. Jamie Hicks singled to spark an advance on a Jayda Crosby double. Following a pair of advancing plays, Natalie Elias reached on a fielder's choice and Hicks came home, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

Idaho State answered in the third with an RBI single to center that brought their runner home, knotting the game at 1-1 and giving the Bengals their lone run of the night.Â
The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead in the fourth. Mackenna Pettey scored on an unearned run for the 2-1 advantage. Tiara Westbrook singled to left to bring home an additional run and push the lead to 3-1.Â
The fifth inning was the decisive blow. With two on and no outs, Rebolledo drilled one down right-center that brought in Crosby and Nitta. Liana ripped a double to left for a three-run shot that cleared the bases. Fresno tacked on five runs in the fifth , turning a 3-1 lead into a statement with an 8-1 advantage.
