Bulldogs drop game two to Aggies in extras

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team fell to Utah State in game two of their three-game series on Saturday at Margie Wright Diamond. After the Bulldogs tied the game with three runs in the seventh to force extras, the Aggies pushed across four runs in the ninth as they defeated Fresno State by a final score of 8-4 in nine innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Utah State started the scoring early after loading the bases with no outs in the top of the first. Alyssa Loza limited the damage to just two runs for the Aggies as Fresno State trailed following the opening inning, 2-0.
Fresno State got on the board in the fifth thanks to a defensive miscue by Utah State. After Emma Martinez advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, a throwing error by the Aggies' first basemen allowed Martinez to come home to give the Bulldogs their first run of the afternoon.
Utah State responded in the sixth inning, as a single to left field plated two more runs for the Aggies to make it a 4-1 ballgame.
Down three, Fresno State stormed back to bring the game level at four in the seventh inning. With one out and runners on first and third, Jamie Hicks sent a single to center field that brought home Alyssa Rebolledo and Natalie Elias, making it a one run ballgame.
As the tying run sat at second base, Mallory Vancleave stepped to the plate and delivered a clutch base-hit that scored Arianna Aguayo from second, tying the game 4-4.
With the game remaining tied entering the ninth, Utah State took the lead on a RBI double with one out. The Aggies added three more runs in the inning as they held a 8-4 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. Fresno State was held scoreless in their half of the inning, as Utah State took game two of the series, 8-4.
