How it Happened
Emma Martinez made her way swiftly around the bases in her first appearance at the plate. Martinez started with a walk, then made it to second on a sacrifice bunt and Hicks' RBI single brought in Martinez for the first run. New Mexico managed to get on the board after an error by the shortstop Jerzie Liana.Â
Fresno State put forth a seven-run fourth inning sparked by Westbrook's home run which brought in two runs. With another pair of 'Dogs on base, Alyssa Rebolledo's single brought in pinch runner Ava Tingey. A set of back-to-back runs. Jamie Hicks brought in Martinez and Alyssa Ramirez brought in Rebolledo to set Fresno State up 5-1. The inning was closed off by none other than Westbrook with two runs batted in. Bulldogs' managed to squeeze in two more runs while playing with two outs.Â
Lobos matched the effort by putting up a five run inning in the bottom of the fourth, their last runs of the night.Â
Not backing down, Fresno State responded strongly with three more runs. Vancleave held all the glory in the fifth with a home run and driving in three runs. Martinez had the final run of the night in the sixth.Â
