FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State was shut out on Friday night, falling 3-0 to Grand Canyon at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
The Bulldogs were limited to just two hits on the night as Grand Canyon starter Chase Frey tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out eight and allowing only one walk.
How It Happened
Grand Canyon struck early, plating a run in the first inning on an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. The Lopes added to their advantage in the second, capitalizing on a walk, a stolen base, and back-to-back RBI singles to push across two more runs and extend the lead to 3-0.
That would be all the offense needed. Fresno State threatened in the fourth inning when Sky Collins singled and moved into scoring position alongside Brady Hewitt, but the Bulldogs were unable to bring either runner home.
Another opportunity came in the sixth when Owen Faust doubled and advanced to third with one out, but the Lopes worked out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts to preserve the shutout.
From there, Grand Canyon retired the final 10 Bulldogs in order to close out the game.
Notes
The Bulldogs will wrap up the series against GCU on Saturday at noon.
