FRESNO, Calif. -Â The Fresno State women's soccer team ended their three-game homestand on Thursday night, dropping their match with Pepperdine by a final score of 4-0 at Bulldog Soccer Stadium.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State opened the game with scoring chances by Aryana Martinez and Abigail Herren, as both recorded shots in the opening five minutes that were both saved by the Pepperdine goalkeeper.Â
The Waves continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, tallying nine consecutive shots as goaltender Jessie Reiss turned away several chances to keep the game scoreless.
Pepperdine broke through first in the 35th minute, as the Waves found the back of the net off a shot from inside the 18-yard box. Pepperdine added another goal six minutes later off a Bulldog turnover as they carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.Â
Pepperdine extended its lead in the 55th minute, as a high-arching shot from just outside the top of the box beat Reiss to give them a 3-0 advantage. Four minutes later, the Waves scored their fourth of the night off another shot from inside the box to expand their lead to 4-0.Â
The Bulldogs continued to battle offensively late in the match. Mariona Sene Corominas recorded a pair of shots in the closing stages, while Katie Morris and Kayla Robinson each had a shot saved by the Waves' netminder as Fresno State was defeated 4-0 on Thursday night.Â
