IRVINE, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team dropped their match against UC Irvine on Thursday night, as the Anteaters defeated the Bulldogs by a final score of 4-1 at Anteater Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State claimed the first scoring chance of the match, with Scarlette Druian testing the Anteater netminder early with a shot towards the bottom of the net that was saved. UC Irvine responded in the ninth minute, generating back-to-back shots on goal that goaltender Kennedy Arntzen turned aside.
The Anteaters threatened to claim the opening goal of the match in the 29th minute, but Arntzen remained poised in goal and kept UC Irvine off the scoreboard with her fourth save of the match.
The deadlock was broken in the 31st minute after a crossing attempt from the edge of the 18-yard box took a UC Irvine bounce, leading to an Anteater midfielder depositing the first goal of the evening.
The Bulldogs found the equalizer just six minutes later. Katie Morris sent a lead pass into the 18-yard box for Tatiana Saunders who beat an Anteater defender to the ball before sneaking a shot past the goalie to bring the game level at 1-1.
UC Irvine reclaimed the lead three minutes into the second half after a shot bounced off the right goal post and into the back of the net to give them a 2-1 lead. UC Irvine struck again in the 68th minute after a crosser was headed past Arntzen for the third goal of the game by the Anteaters.
UC Irvine added their fourth and final goal of the night in the 80th minute, as the Bulldogs fell to the Anteaters by a final score of 4-1 on Thursday.
