Rayshon Luke earned the honor after leading Fresno State to a 38-24 victory over Rice. The senior running back rushed for a game-high 167 yards and one touchdown on just 11 carries, averaging 15.2 yards per attempt without being stopped for a loss. He had the third-highest average (min. 10 attempts) in program history. It is the highest average since 1958.
He added three receptions for 10 yards to finish with a game-high 177 all-purpose yards. Luke produced four runs of at least 15 yards, highlighted by a 52-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that restored the Bulldogs' 14-point advantage just 1:21 after Rice had pulled within seven. He accounted for 67 percent of Fresno State's 249 rushing yards as the Bulldogs finished with 492 yards of total offense.
Luke registered his first career 100-yard rushing performance on Saturday. He tied for the most rushing yards in a game by a Fresno State player in the Matt Entz era with teammate Bryson Donelson, who had 167 in last year's game against Georgia Southern. That total is the most by a Bulldog since Jordan Mims rans for 209 yards in the 2022 LA Bowl against Washington State.Â
The Bulldogs open conference play at Washington State on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. PT on USA Sports.Â
