Ryan Haag begins his first year as the volunteer assistant coach at Fresno State in 2007. His primary duties include serving as the team[apos]s first base coach and outfield instructor. He also assists head coach Mike Batesole with the infielders.
Haag was a two-year letterwinner with the Bulldogs, joining the program in 2003. Haag played two years under Batesole in 2001 and 2002 for Cal State Northridge. As a sophomore at Northrige he recorded a .345 batting average with three home runs and 37 RBI[apos]s. he also started 39 of the 59 games at CSUN and led it to a 41-17 record and a Big West Conference title. Also while at Northridge he garnered first-team all-conference honors as a third baseman.
After transferring to Fresno State and combining forces with batesole in 2003 he started all 59 games for the Bulldogs at second base earning second-team All-WAC. He was led the team that year in 235 at bats, runs (38), walks (26) and tied for the team lead in doubles (14). He concluded his 2003 year with a .289 batting average.
In 2004 Haag was third on the team with a .352 batting average, leading the team in runs (58) and hits (90). He garnered first-team all-WAC honors that year.
After his college days in a Bulldog uniform Haag was drafted by the New York Yankees in 2004 and played a short season in the GCL. He also played short seasons in the New York Penn League in 2005. Haag is originally from Newhall, Calif.
