Mark Weber begins his second stint as an offensive line coach at Fresno State, as Tim DeRuyter hired him to his staff on Jan. 15, 2016. In addition to coaching the offensive line, Weber will serve as the run game coordinator for the Bulldogs.
Weber has been in 16 bowl games as a coach and spent the past three seasons as Utah State’s offensive line and associate head coach. He coached 10 linemen that earned All-Mountain West honors for the Aggies in just three seasons, including Tyler Larsen who in 2013 was named a second-team All-American by USA Today Sports and was one of six finalists for the Rimington Trophy, honoring the nation’s best collegiate center.
He was at BYU for six seasons (2007-12), helping the Cougars reach six bowl games and capture the 2007 Mountain West Championship. Six Cougars earned first-team All-Mountain West honors, including two All-Americans in Dallas Reynolds and Matt Reynolds.
Weber spent one season (2006) at North Carolina in between his time at BYU and Fresno State. His Bulldog offensive lines helped Fresno State average 40.2 points per game and 227.5 rushing yards in 2004 and 37.8 points and just 14 sacks 2005, which ranked in a tie for No. 8 in the nation in fewest sacks allowed that year.
Logan Mankins and Ryan Wendell, who both have gone on to star in the NFL, were coached by Weber at Fresno State. Mankins garnered All-America accolades in 2004 under Weber before going on to be a first-round pick of the New England Patriots and six-time Pro Bowl selection. Wendell was a freshman All-American in 2004 under Weber and the WAC Freshman of the Year.
Weber spent seven seasons at UCLA (1997-2003) prior to his stint at Fresno State, helping guide the Bruins to five bowl appearances, including the 1999 Rose Bowl and a pair of Pac-10 titles. At UCLA, he coached two first-team All-Americans, including Kris Farris, who won the 1998 Outland Trophy. He also mentored three freshmen All-Americans and six players who garnered all-Pac-10 honors.
Before coaching at UCLA, Weber was UNLV’s assistant head coach and offensive line coach from 1994-96 and helped the Rebels win the 1994 Las Vegas Bowl. He also served in the same capacity at Nevada in 1992-93, and coached Oregon State’s offensive line from 1987-90 under Aggie alum Dave Kragthorpe, who is a former USU Athletics Director and current Special Assistant to the Head Coach at Utah State.
Weber got his coaching start as an assistant at Los Angeles Valley College in 1979 before spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at Idaho State from 1980-81, as the Bengals captured the 1981 NCAA Division I-AA national championship under Kragthorpe. He has also made coaching stops at Snow College (1982), Eastern New Mexico (1983-84), West Texas A&M (1985-86) and Missouri Western State College (1991).
Weber is a 1980 graduate of Cal Lutheran and earned a master’s degree in physical education from Idaho State in 1981. He played offensive guard for two seasons at Cal Lutheran and was named an honorable mention Small College All-American at guard.
Weber and his wife, Kathy, have two daughters, Allie and KaCee.
