Sam Lackey joined the Fresno State staff in the summer of 2021 as the Director of Football Sports Performance.
Most recently, Sam was at Northern Arizona University as the Head Strength Coach and oversaw the entire Strength and Conditioning department. During his tenure at NAU, he was responsible for the program design of Football, Volleyball, and Cross Country.
In his 5 year stint at NAU, the Cross Country team won four Division 1 National Championships, Volleyball won the 2018 Big Sky conference championship, and Football had one of the most prolific offenses in FCS, ranking number one in the nation for passing.
Prior to NAU, Lackey’s previous stops include UT-Arlington as a graduate assistant, Vanderbilt University, Georgetown University, and the University of Maryland.
He is certified through the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), CSCCa Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC), and is USAW Level 1 Certified. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science from Texas State University and earned a Master's of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Texas-Arlington.
Outside of his career, Lackey is an avid outdoorsman that enjoys bow hunting, waterfowl hunting, fishing, competing in the Highland Games and spending time with his dog Bowen. Lackey is married to the former Aly Presswood, who was a softball scholarship athlete at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).
