Courtnay Pilypaitis (court-nee pil-ee-pie-tis) enters her fourth season as an assistant coach with the Fresno State women's basketball program for the 2024-25 season.Â
Pilypaitis most recently spent a three-year stretch at UMBC. During her time, she coached four individuals to America East all-conference honors. Taylor McCarley, a two-time first team selection, ended her career ranking in the top five in UMBC's history in scoring, assists and steals. She also helped mentor Laura Castaldo and Te'yJah Oliver who, like McCarley, were also 1,000-point scorers during their careers.
Â
Prior to that, the Orleans, Ontario native spent four seasons as an assistant at her alma mater, Vermont. While in Burlington she recruited multiple players who went on to receive America East postseason accolades during their careers, most notably Hannah Crymble a three-time selection and 2020 Defensive Player of the Year.
Â
During her time as a player with the Catamounts (2006-10), Pilypaitis was a four-time America East selection, was named conference Rookie of the Year in 2007 and Player of the Year the following season. During her four-year career she amassed 1,993 points, 905 rebounds, and 636 assists. She helped Vermont to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2009 and 2010 behind a pair of tournament MVP performances. In 2010, the Catamounts earned their first NCAA tournament win behind Pilypaitis' 25-point, 8-rebound effort against seventh-seeded Wisconsin. Â
Â
Following her collegiate career, Pilypaitis played two seasons for VICI Kaunas in Lithuania. In both seasons, her team won the Lithuanian Cup, BWBL championship and DNB Cup while she was named LMKL Import Player of the Year.
Â
Pilypaitis was a member of the Canadian National Team for nine years (2007-15), and member of the senior team for six (2010-15). In 2012, she was a starting guard for Team Canada at the London Olympics.
Â
Pilypaitis graduated from Vermont with a bachelor's degree in public communications in 2010.Â
